There’s no such thing as a Volcano Mini, and there’s no portable or handheld Volcano. Storz & Bickel makes one bag vaporizer, the Volcano, in two versions, and everything else it sells is either a smaller corded device or a portable.

When people search for a mini Volcano, they usually mean one of three things: a cheaper way into the Volcano, something smaller from Storz & Bickel that they can carry, or a bag vaporizer like the Volcano that costs less. I’ve owned Volcanos since 2006 and have reviewed them here for 18 years, so here’s what I’d point a friend to for each.

Every Storz & Bickel device, side by side

US list prices at Storz & Bickel. Planet of the Vapes has all of them at 15% off with no code.

Device S&B price POTV price Type Heat-up Power Warranty Best for Links
Volcano Hybrid $699 $594.15 Bag and whip About 40 sec to 180°C; under 90 sec at the temperatures most people use Corded 2 years, plus 1 on registration The full Volcano, with both ways to use it S&B / POTV
Volcano Classic $479 $407.15 Bag 3 to 5 min, longer at the top of the dial Corded 2 years, plus 1 on registration The Volcano experience for the least money new S&B / POTV
Plenty $249 $211.65 Whip (desktop) 3 to 4.5 min Corded 2 years The closest S&B thing to a small Volcano S&B / POTV
Venty $449 $381.65 Portable About 20 sec, the fastest S&B makes Battery 2 years, plus 1 on registration S&B’s flagship portable S&B / POTV
Mighty+ $399 $339.15 Portable About 60 sec Battery (USB-C) 2 years, plus 1 on registration A USB-C portable with a ceramic chamber S&B / POTV
Crafty+ $279 $237.15 Portable 60 to 80 sec Battery 2 years A smaller Mighty S&B / POTV
Veazy $249 $199.20 Portable About 45 sec, closer to a minute once the herb is warm Battery 2 years The simplest and cheapest S&B portable S&B / POTV

The warranty column matters more than it looks. The Veazy, Crafty+ and Plenty don’t get S&B’s extra year on registration, so they’re 2-year machines. Everything else is 3 years once registered.

If you want the Volcano experience for less

Buy the Classic from a dealer. The Volcano Classic is the original bag Volcano, and at Planet of the Vapes it’s $407.15, about $292 less than the Hybrid at list. You give up the whip, not the balloons. If balloons are why you want a Volcano, this is the one I’d buy. My Hybrid vs Classic comparison has the rest of the differences, and there’s a full Volcano Classic review. In daily use you lose two things: the fast heat-up (the Classic takes three to five minutes where the Hybrid is ready in under 90 seconds) and precise temperature control, since the Classic has a dial rather than a digital setting. The vapor from the bag is the same.

Buy a used Classic. Used Volcanos are common, and the Classic is very durable, which makes it the safest used buy in the lineup. The catch is that a private sale comes with no warranty support. Read my guide to buying a used Volcano first.

Buy the Plenty. The Plenty is a corded desktop whip vaporizer at $249, or $211.65 at Planet of the Vapes. It doesn’t do bags, and the Volcano is still the only bag vaporizer S&B makes. But if what you want is a plug-in S&B device for home use at about a third of the Hybrid’s price, this is the closest thing. It gets 2 years of warranty, not 3.

My take: the Plenty is the best value in the S&B lineup for pure vapor quality. It hits harder and cooler than the Mighty+, thanks to the long cooling coil and a big chamber, it’s built like a power tool, and it’s usually the cheapest way into genuine S&B performance. It gets called overlooked far more often than it gets called flawed.

Who should not buy it:

  • Anyone who wants portability. It’s corded, heavy, and shaped like a heat gun. No battery, no discreet way to use it.
  • Microdosers and light solo users. The chamber is big and works best packed full. Small loads vape unevenly unless you use the reduction pad or a dosing capsule.
  • Impatient or on-demand users. Three to four minutes to heat, and the heater cuts out when you release the switch, so you’re managing it the whole session.
  • People who want precision. It’s an analog dial with a bimetal thermometer, no digital readout, no app.
  • Bag fans. If the Volcano experience is what you liked, the Plenty gives you none of it. It’s whip only.

If you want the hardest-hitting session at home and don’t care about looks or portability, buy it. If you’re choosing between it and a Mighty+ for use anywhere but the couch, get the Mighty+.

If you want it portable

None of these are Volcanos, and none of them do bags. They’re S&B’s portables, and they’re what most people searching “portable Volcano” end up buying.

Venty ($449). Released in October 2023, it’s S&B’s flagship portable, with adjustable airflow and an app. It’s the best portable S&B has made, and for most buyers who can afford it, the one to get. The 20-second heat-up changes how you use it: it becomes a device you grab on impulse rather than plan around. The adjustable airflow is the other real upgrade, letting you choose between a tight, flavorful draw and the wide-open, Mighty-style cloud. Build quality, battery, and the cooling unit are all Mighty+ class or better.

Where it falls short: price, since at $449 it’s the most expensive S&B portable by a wide margin and the Mighty+ delivers 85 percent of the experience for noticeably less; early reliability, because the first batch was recalled in late 2023 for a battery issue, and although current units seem fine it left a mark in the forums; app reliance, since some features live in the web app and S&B’s app situation on iOS has been messy for years; and size, because it’s faster and better than the Mighty+ but no more pocketable.

Buy it if you want the fastest, hardest-hitting portable and don’t mind paying for it. Mighty+ owners who found the heat-up annoying will notice the difference immediately. Skip it if you’re on a budget, since the Mighty+ or Veazy get you most of the way there, or if you want something small and discreet, because this is not that.

Mighty+ ($399). It charges over USB-C, has a ceramic chamber, and gets the full 3 years once registered. For most friends, this is the one I’d tell them to buy over the Venty. It does the same job at a meaningfully lower price, it’s been proven over years with no recall history, and the vapor quality gap is small. Sixty seconds of heat-up is the only thing you’ll notice, and you’ll stop noticing it within a week. The Venty wins if you’ve said one of two things: “I want the best one and price doesn’t matter,” because it’s faster, hits harder on wide airflow, and has the better battery, though not by the margin the price gap implies; or “I already own a Mighty and the heat-up bugs me,” because that’s the one complaint the Venty fully solves. The tie-breaker: couch sessions, Mighty+; many quick hits a day, the 20-second heat-up earns its money and it’s the Venty. If you have an older Mighty, my Mighty vs Mighty+ post covers what changed.

Veazy ($249). Launched on September 9, 2025. One button, three temperature levels, control through a web app, and it weighs 0.3 lb. It’s the cheapest S&B portable at $199.20 at Planet of the Vapes, but it doesn’t get the extra warranty year. It’s S&B’s first honest entry-level portable, and it’s good at what it is. You get real S&B build, a proper cooling unit, the same capsule system, and about a 45-second heat-up, for roughly half a Venty. It’s a sipper, not a ripper: draws are smoother and less dense than a Mighty+, which some people prefer and heavy users will find underpowered. Battery life is better than the Crafty+, and it’s the smallest device they make.

On the three heat levels, for someone coming from a Volcano dial it’s a real change but not a dealbreaker. The presets land at roughly 180°C, 190°C, and 205°C, which covers the range most people actually use. What you lose is the ability to creep up in small steps through a session and to sit at a specific number you’ve settled on. What you’d never miss is the Volcano dial’s imprecision; the Veazy’s presets are more repeatable than an analog knob ever was. And S&B’s web app lets you set a custom temperature for each of the three slots, so a Volcano person can program their own 175, 195, and 210 and then never touch the app again. That closes most of the gap.

It’s for first-time buyers, people who found the Mighty+ too much money or too big, and anyone who wants S&B quality for light-to-moderate use. Heavy hitters who want big clouds, and anyone who tinkers with temperature constantly, should pay up for the Mighty+ or Venty.

The Crafty+ ($279) is a smaller Mighty, and it’s also 2 years only. For everything else, see my portable vaporizer reviews.

Other brands’ bag vaporizers

If you want balloons specifically and don’t want to pay for a Volcano, other brands make cheaper desktop vaporizers that fill bags. The Arizer Extreme Q is one example; it does bags and a whip. I’ve never used one, and I haven’t tested any current bag vaporizer from another brand, so I’m naming it as a category, not recommending it. If balloons are the whole point for you, my honest advice is still a Classic, new or used.

My verdict

If you want a Volcano and the price is the problem, buy a Classic from an authorized dealer, or a used Classic if you accept the warranty risk. If you want something smaller for home and don’t need bags, the Plenty is the hardest-hitting thing S&B makes for the money. If you want to carry it, the Mighty+ is the pick for most people, the Venty if money is no object or a slow heat-up drives you mad, and the Veazy if you want to spend less and keep it simple. Wherever you buy, register it with S&B. There’s more on that in my guide to where to buy a Volcano, and current prices are on the Volcano coupon page.

FAQ

Is there a Volcano Mini?
